The city of London was founded by the Romans and in the third century, the Romans gave the area the name Londinium. Over the many centuries that passed, London had its fair share of historical moments including the establishment of Westminster Abbey in 1065, the Great Fire of London in 1666, the opening of the London Underground in 1863 and the Great Smog of 1952 to name a few.
