Ilford is a lively district in the London borough of Redbridge and is one of the largest retail centres in London. Boasting a huge choice of restaurants, cafes and bars, the area of Ilford is close to Stratford which was home to the 2012 Olympics. With its own mainline station, the area is only seven miles from the City and can be easily accessed by the Central Line. Ilford truly is an exciting, cosmopolitan town in its own right!

The area is a unique shoppers paradise with over 1.7 million square feet of shopping space. It also appeals to families thanks to its great number of schools with an Ofsted rating of either ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ as well as its range of open spaces including Valentines Park which has the most beautiful floral displays.

Ilford certainly has a fascinating past. The first recording of the town was in the Domesday Book way back in 1086 as Ilefort which means ‘ford over the Hyle’. In 1860, the only complete full skull of a mammoth to be discovered in the UK was found in the High Road of Ilford. Before the Great Eastern Railway arrived in the early 1800s, the town was only a small rural village of about 50 houses and the area was mainly rural. Today, Ilford has a great mix of old and new, making it a truly vibrant part of Redbridge.
